Baby and work – manage it
If there is an infant at hand, then in short you must be very exhausted. On top of that the baby wants attention, from home, office there is hardly time left and the baby starts bawling in the middle of a con call. You love your child but you need that extra dollar. So what is it that a work at home parent should do?Routine
Make a daily routine for your child and yourself, so that the child realize that it is your work time. The child id after all the first priority and the most probable reason you chose to work from home. For kids it is essential to understand that the parent is working and needs some time to be quiet, establishing a routine will help deliver that message. Of course there are off days too and fun days too where you just suddenly want to stay with your child throughout the day, but then catch up with the work later or after the child is off to bed. Motherhood is amazing and a child can bring all the difference in your life just by saying that there are fairies she met!
In moments like these take off, enjoy the time, the bond and get back to work later. It is not worth an extra dollar to lose those moments.
Play games like the silent game, use a timer to tell the time, tell her that as soon as the timer rings you will be all for her, the fascination of a game will allow her to play along and not disturb you when you need to be at work. Just stick to the timer game and no cheating because the baby will be waiting for you.
Use the imagination and let the child stay with you. Tell the child that she also has to work, make her imitate you and then see the difference. Children idolize their parents and always try to be like them, tell your child that she has to do some work too, give her a couple of games to play on a separate computer, or tell her to imitate you at work with a pair of fake headphones.
In the last tell the client that you are working from home with a small kid. Most people are supportive and will understand.
Managing this will help you reap the joys of motherhood without having u cringe at every penny spent.
