Dealing with the unexpected Part1 Zoning Restrictions and Noisy Neighbors
Home based business can free you from static schedules of the day jobs and give you the freedom to work at your leisure and at your own pace. Take your on breaks without worrying about your supervisor, if it gets too boring call up a friend or watch TV. All that sounds so good right? Now let’s face some reality.. what if your job requires you to be creative, say you are a copy writer or a graphic designer and your neighbors have eight noisy kids who are on a roll while your deadline is approaching fast or you just chose the wrong locality! In this blog I’ll deal with these two specific unexpected issues that can ground your home business.
Zoning Restrictions
All cities have laws that prevent residents of certain localities from running a business out of their house. Did you check if your house is located in one such zone before you purchased it? Of course you had a job (or your husband was working and you had no plans of starting a home business) when you purchase the house and a home business wasn’t even a distinct possibility back then, so what to do now. Find a copy of the zoning law and check what it exactly says, sometimes the law allows some types of home based businesses and is meant to restrict only a few that are likely to cause too much disturbance for the neighborhood. And even if the law bars you from starting a home business you can talk to your neighbors and if they all agree you can apply for variance or conditional use permit.
Noisy Neighbors
Well, that’s not as permanent problem as the first one we just discussed, you can move your desk away from the window and place floor length draperies over the window. Alternatively you can place a distraction of your own to counter the real distraction like playing background music or anything else depending on your liking.
