The best way to telecommute is to look for freelance and home based jobs.  If you pay attention to job boards advertised online or in print media you would have probably noticed that many of these home based jobs are actually scams. Avoid getting trapped in common scams like stuffing envelopes and mail order business scams. Try checking out the freelance jobs which you can do from home too. Freelance jobs are usually not advertised under the regular work at home job category.

You will need to submit an application for the available free lance positions with the advertising company. Freelance job hiring works in the same manner as the regular job hiring process.  The company gets your background checked and they will probably interview you over phone.

Many companies do have interim requirements and back end jobs to be done for which they may not wish to employ personnel.  For example, a company based in Palo Alto called liveops hires people for customer service from all over the United States and they prefer that people work from home. However there is some basic criteria to be met in terms of Internet connectivity, computer and office set up.  The company pays on every call that you take and for every minute you spend on the call.

Working as a freelancer gives you a lot of freedom and you are your own boss as far as time is concerned. You can start working whenever you want as long as you manage to complete your assignment by the required time.  You will still get the feel of an office environment because you need to report your work.

Another added advantage is that you have the security of a regular job as long as your work is professional. Next time you’re checking out work at home opportunities make sure you look for freelance jobs too.
